Data show no payment on 100,000 closed Sandy claims in N.J.

More than 100,000 closed claims in New Jersey involving damage from Hurricane Sandy have received no insurance payment, based on a review of data from the state Department of Banking and Insurance. Nonpayment of these claims, however, should not be seen as denied cases, according to insurance officials. "We'll open a claim because we're looking for a way to give them coverage, not to deny it," said Eric Stenson, spokesman for New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance.
