Clients with cancer pose a special opportunity -- and challenge -- to nail salons, owners say, as they seek services that can provide a pick-me-up during the taxing treatment period for their disease. Salons must be especially careful to maintain sanitation for immune-compromised clients undergoing cancer treatment. But the rewards for the client and the salon are many. "Hand care particularly is soothing and provides a sense of connectedness," says licensed manicurist Sheila Fredriksen. She is the founder of natural beauty brand Nontoxique and developed the Oncology Manicuring 101 class.
