Penalties for unlawfully passing school buses would rise under N.C. bill

Drivers in North Carolina would face tougher penalties for unlawfully passing school buses under a bill that has cleared the House. Fines under the measure would be at least $500 for a misdemeanor conviction, $2,500 for a felony and $5,000 in cases of death. Driver's licenses would be revoked for one year or more for motorists with repeat offenses.
