Vitter: U.S. chemical industry needs regulatory relief, TSCA update

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., emphasized the importance of the chemical industry to the U.S. economy, along with the regulatory challenges facing the sector, in this Q&A. "The recent surge in domestic oil and gas production has spurred reinvestment domestically, and serves as one of the lone bright spots helping the U.S. weather this economic storm," said Vitter, who is working on proposals to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act. "[W]e need a friendlier and more conducive business environment in this country ... We have been blessed with a massive domestic supply of natural gas used in chemical feedstocks, and we have to make sure our chemical producers and manufacturers have the access to resources they need," he added.
