Weingarten: Success of common core depends on slowing down the process

Teacher preparation and a careful process are key to the successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards, writes Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. Besides focusing on necessary support for teachers and students, Weingarten in this blog post suggests a moratorium be placed on "consequences in these transitional years" to allow for "midcourse corrections, as needed, in aligning the standards, curriculum, teacher training, instruction and assessments."
