Hundreds of urban public schools switch to K-8 configuration

Supporters of the new trend toward K-8 schools say the model better aligns curricula, minimizes school-to-school transitions and fosters stronger pupil-teacher connections. Although the research is limited, studies of K-8 schools in Philadelphia and Cincinnati indicate that scores and attendance have risen, while disciplinary problems have declined.
