Editorial: Banning texting while driving easier said than done

Although bills banning texting while driving have gained momentum in states such as Illinois and Missouri, the technology's powerful lure may make the bans difficult to enforce. Texting has become a powerful social phenomenon and many tout its political and educational importance, to say nothing of how pervasive it is in some social circles. Yet the most difficult aspect of the crusade against texting behind the wheel may be convincing young people to abandon a bad habit for safety's sake, a quest anti-smoking advocates have been fruitlessly pursuing for years.
