Expert: Students with special needs should start college planning early

Finding the appropriate college for students with disabilities can be challenging, but can make the difference between success and failure, says Carolina Alvarado, a college-registration director who has ADHD and other learning disabilities. Early planning and asking questions should be part of the college-search process for students with special needs, admissions officials say. Diagnostic testing may help colleges better understand a particular student's needs.
