Social music began as a simple tool to access songs, often illegally, but it has since changed the entire experience, Ben Parr writes. MySpace has transformed artist-listener interaction, and streaming sites like Last.fm and Pandora let users share their tastes. "The Web has not only made music easily sharable," he writes, "but turned its listeners and lovers into active participants."
