Second Life hopes to ring up real-world sales with calling features

Users of Linden Lab's Second Life have tallied 15 billion minutes of free VoIP calls during the past 18 months and are accounting for 1 billion minutes a month. VoIP service Skype, in comparison, has racked up 200 billion minutes since 2003. Second Life, as part of an effort to drive more revenue, is starting to offer a premium voice plan that will allow users to field real-world phone calls while playing the virtual-reality game.
