Alcatel CEO expects telecoms to spend more

Alcatel-Lucent's Chief Executive Officer Ben Verwaayen expressed bullish sentiments at an investors' conference Thursday, saying he believed the telecom vendor had turned the corner because of carriers' sense of urgency in beefing up wireless-network capacity. Verwaayen said demand for mobile bandwidth had spurred operators to change their old financial models to "putting broadband capabilities into the palm of your hand."
