Students with special needs at an Indiana high school participated in a new program this year to help them learn hands-on skills in home improvement and construction. Special-education teacher Julie Noel created the Student Transition Employment Partnership, or STEP, and teamed with Home Depot to provide students job experience. Students were able to improve their communication and fine-motor skills and learn how to work as a team. "It's been invaluable for their self-esteem," Noel said.
