Middle-class consumers are moving up to higher-end retailers

Consumers who flocked to discount stores during the downturn appear to be heading back to higher-priced stores as the economy improves. Recent earnings reports illustrate the trend -- while Wal-Mart's domestic sales slowed last quarter, Saks and Nordstrom saw significant upticks in same-store sales.
