New York City is poised to boost water rates by 12.9%

The New York City Water Board is expected to raise rates by 12.9% -- the fourth consecutive year of double-digit increases. This means the average annual water bill for a single-family homeowner would increase from $723 to $816 beginning July 1. The proposed increase, like several previous rate hikes, is being attributed to higher costs for clean-water projects mandated by the state and federal governments.
