VCs criticize the pricing model for "freemium" apps

A group of venture capitalists agreed that it was shortsighted for mobile carriers to charge subscribers for so-called "freemium" applications, saying they could do better by giving them away and collecting on upgrades, virtual goods and subscriptions. "Recurring revenue will make you way more than $4.99," said Jeff Clavier of SoftTech VC, referring to the standard price for premium apps.
