Air Force cadets envision future rescue craft

A capstone project by nine U.S. Air Force Academy cadets may one day provide a superior aircraft for search-and-rescue and medical missions. The cyclogyro "Night Owl" can take off and land vertically, hover and move in any direction while in flight and outpace helicopters for speed. "Speed was crucial to our design since seconds matter when someone's life is on the line, and it turns out a cyclogyro design is VTOL-capable and can more than double the speeds of current helicopters," said Cadet 1st Class Zachary Adams, chief engineer of the team.
