Chancellor to step down as N.C. university's crime handling is investigated

Willie Gilchrist will resign next month as chancellor of Elizabeth City State University, which is the subject of an inquiry by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. More than 120 crime complaints since 2007 weren't investigated by campus police, according to Elizabeth City, N.C., police. The university, which could face fines or lose financial-aid funding, also is accused of violating federal law on crime reporting.
