Nashville hotels clean up as Music City Center opens

As Nashville, Tenn., welcomed the opening of the Music City Center over the weekend, hotels in the city are vying to compete for a slice of the market. Loews Vanderbilt Hotel recently underwent a $17 million renovation, while Hotel Indigo poured $5 million into expansion. "The convention center is a very significant factor in terms of generating new demand that hasn’t been in the marketplace before," said Chuck Pinkowski, a hospitality industry consultant. "If hotels want to be competitive with all the new stuff that's coming online, they need to upgrade. I saw this in Austin, Indianapolis and now in Nashville."
