Outlet malls shine as shoppers continue to crave deals

While full-price shopping center development in the U.S. is on pause, planning for about 50 new outlet centers is underway. Value-minded consumers continue to spend at outlet stores, which drove industry sales of $25.4 billion last year, according to Value Retail News. "The old adage is true: In good times, people love a bargain, and, in tough times like these, people need a bargain," Tanger Factory Outlets CEO Steven B. Tanger said.
