Chinese economic boom fuels appetite for raw materials

As the Chinese economy goes into overdrive and fuels a construction frenzy, the nation's ever-increasing appetite for raw materials is having worldwide repercussions. China consumed about half the world's cement and one-third of its steel last year, and what some economists are dubbing the "China Syndrome" is putting pressure on raw materials producers around the globe to keep up with the demand.
