Researchers hail drug as possible hepatitis C "cure"

Researchers say using the drug peginterferon either alone or in combination with ribavirin cut the hepatitis virus to undetectable levels for up to seven years. The study tested 997 patients who had hepatitis C, or both hepatitis and HIV, and 99% of those with hepatitis C who were treated successfully had no detectable virus for up to seven years.
