ASTA opposes Massachusetts tax on agents' service fees

The Massachusetts Senate has added language in a bill that would tax the service fees of travel agents when booking hotels in the state. The move prompted members of the regional ASTA chapter to get involved. "If agents are forced to pay this tax, they will do so at both the federal and state level. This will certainly affect travel agents, but it will also affect the state's tourism," said Mike Spinelli Jr., president of ASTA's New England Chapter and business development manager for Vacation.com.
