Watchdog group warns of serious side effects in Chantix

Chantix, Pfizer's smoking-cessation drug, has been associated with more than 1,000 serious incidents and problems including diabetes, seizures and heart trouble, according to a report by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices. The findings, which were based on an analysis of adverse events filed with the FDA, have prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to prohibit pilots and air traffic controllers from using the drug. Pfizer said the existing label for Chantix is consistent with its safety profile.
