CCHIT should serve as certifying body for EHRs, HIMSS says

HHS officials have received a letter urging them to allow the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology to determine whether platforms for electronic medical records are eligible to get funding from the stimulus package. HIMSS, which helped establish CCHIT, called for the move in an April 27 letter to the agency. Some industry experts, however, questioned CCHIT's close relationship with IT vendors and health care firms, saying that such ties could prompt conflict-of-interest issues.
