Editorial: NextGen technologies at airports offer huge benefits

As the FAA begins testing NextGen technologies in the Miami area that will help enhance airport capacity, there is a greater goal in mind. Greg Principato, president of the Airports Council International-North America, and Bill Johnson, executive director of the Florida Airports Council, write in an editorial that the technologies must also "transform our air transportation system -- improving efficiency, reducing passenger delays, and reducing aviation's environmental footprint." They write that airports will need to make improvements to take advantage of all the benefits of NextGen, and a government commitment to putting the system in place nationwide is necessary for ensuring "that our air transportation system can be transformed to meet our 21st century needs."
