Jury says Dow Chemical, PPG must pay in contamination case

A California jury has decided that Dow Chemical and PPG Industries must pay $18.3 million for an estimated $100 million project to remove dry cleaning chemicals from soil and groundwater in Modesto. The chemical perchloroethylene leaked into the groundwater from Elwood Dry Cleaning Service, jurors decided; Dow Chemical, which says its products are safe when properly used, says it plans to appeal.
