Mass. hospital adopts system to reduce disease outbreaks

Massachusetts General Hospital has implemented a disease-surveillance system aimed at assisting the state's Department of Public Health in decreasing the risk of major outbreaks of infectious diseases. The system, which is based on the InterSystems Ensemble technology, is capable of processing more than 91 million HL7 messages a year and is designed to provide alerts every eight hours, every day of the week.
