FEMA to offer low NFIP rates for properties affected by new flood maps

The Federal Emergency Management Agency agreed to open the National Flood Insurance Program's lowest-cost option for two years to property owners who will be forced to buy flood coverage as a result of the new flood maps. The offer is "only a temporary solution" to enable residents to get financial protection "at an affordable price in the event of a flood," said an official.
