Some teachers are using social-networking websites and other new media as part of their classroom lessons, according to William Kist, author of "The Socially Networked Classroom: Teaching in the New Media Age." An Ohio sixth-grade teacher used the school's intranet network to launch classroom blogs for her students. An Australian educator used Facebook to connect his students with experts in an industry they were learning about. Kist writes that teachers using social media are also vigilant in keeping students on task online and guarding against inappropriate content.
