SEC looks into brokers' role in May 6 "flash crash"

The Securities and Exchange Commission's enforcement division is looking into the market plunge of May 6, particularly whether market makers and brokerages correctly executed investors' trades and fulfilled their obligations to provide market liquidity. SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro said the agency is also considering mandates for market participation for traders who are not required to continue trading during extreme volatility.
