Shrinking herds signal higher beef prices

Cattle purchases at U.S. feedlots likely dropped to a three-year low in April, signaling tighter supplies and higher beef prices for restaurants this year, analysts say. Beef outputs will fall to their lowest levels since 2005 after last summer's drought decimated herds in Texas, according to government figures.
