Bill seeks to defer flood insurance rate hikes

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., has filed a bill to defer higher flood insurance premiums under the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act until half a year after a study on the premiums' affordability is completed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "Flood insurance must be affordable, accessible and self-sustainable. Biggert-Waters only addressed self-sustainability at the cost of homeowners in Louisiana and across the country living around water," Landrieu says.
