Effort to ban "gray market" drug sales revived

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., reintroduced a bill that would prohibit wholesalers from buying prescription drugs from pharmacies, establish wholesaler fees and a tracking system, and require sellers to provide the original purchase price to purchasing organizations for therapies in short supply. An earlier congressional study found pharmacies had sold drugs in short supply to wholesalers, creating a "gray market."
