Higher melanoma risk seen among IBD patients in study

Inflammatory bowel disease is associated with a 37% greater risk of developing melanoma, researchers at Mayo Clinic found. The results, discussed at the Digestive Disease Week 2013 conference, suggest that physicians should provide IBD patients with appropriate counseling about the increased risk of skin cancer, the study author said.
