Mich. city council denies request to widen police force

The Ann Arbor, Mich., City Council has rejected a proposal to add funding for three full-time police officers to the budget. Despite naming public safety as a priority before starting the budgeting process, the council decided that the $270,000 needed to hire the officers would be better spent maintaining six probation officers.
