Rebounding housing market offsets cold spring at Home Depot

Home Depot raised its forecast for the year Tuesday after reporting stronger-than-expected first-quarter sales and profit growth fueled by a rebound in the housing market. Rival Lowe's saw a 0.7% drop in same-store sales for the quarter, and both retailers reported a slowdown in sales of outdoor products and equipment due to the cool early spring months.
