The Springfield, Mass., City Council voted 12-0 Monday to allow the transfer of $95,000 to the city Election Commission, which will use the funds to help pay for the July 16 casino referendum on MGM Resorts International's proposed $800 million casino. The City Council turned down a proposal to move the referendum to a Saturday to avoid confusion among voters, instead selecting Tuesday, July 16.
