Touch-screen payment system to help restaurants thwart data thieves

Hundreds of restaurants nationwide will start using a new touch-screen payment system called RAIL over the next few months. The system is designed to encrypt customers' payment information and frustrate data thieves while allowing customers to calculate tips, split bills, answer survey questions, e-mail receipts and use PayPal or another digital payment service to pay for their meals.
