Harry Herington, CEO of NIC Inc., likes to ride a Harley-Davidson to staff meetings. Turning up in leathers, with a helmet under one arm, is a great way to defuse tension and get workers to open up, he says. "They know I'm coming from corporate and I'm there to answer questions," he says. "When I show up on a motorcycle, a lot of it becomes about the trip, and there's just something about a motorcycle. There is a rebel aspect."
