Oregon faces widespread school collapse in major quake, study finds

While China parries criticism over shoddy construction that led to the collapse of many schools in Sichuan, experts say U.S. school buildings might not fare much better in a similar quake. In Oregon, which does not have safety laws governing school construction, a statewide assessment last year found 1,300 school buildings with a "high to very high probability of collapse."
