Boeing looks to bottom line on Dreamliner

As the 787 Dreamliner prepares for its first flight, Boeing Co. CEO Jim McNerney says the focus is shifting from technology to profitability for the new aircraft. Noting that about half the company's new models start at "zero profitability," McNerney said Thursday that Boeing is making a "concerted effort" to wring efficiencies from suppliers. "While the global 787 business plan is fundamentally sound, no program can stand as an island," McNerney said, adding that the lessons learned have created a new management culture at Boeing.
