Maryland to tighten construction runoff rules

Maryland builders will be required to control runoff from construction sites as part of a settlement aimed at reducing sediment in Chesapeake Bay and the state's rivers. In response to a legal challenge by the Waterkeeper Alliance and other groups, the Maryland Department of the Environment said it would tighten guidelines for erosion control on construction sites within the year and also institute individual permits for projects of more than 150 acres.
