Southwest's Milwaukee service marks biggest growth since 1996

Wednesday's announcement that Southwest Airlines will begin service to Milwaukee, Wis., in November ups the pressure not only on Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines, but also on fellow discounter AirTran Airways, which has targeted the city as a major growth market over the past year. Milwaukee will be Southwest's fourth new market this year, though company officials note that network growth is being achieved by shuffling existing aircraft rather than adding new planes to the fleet.
