AAFP wants simplified prescribing rules for diabetes supplies

An AAFP letter to the CMS asks the agency to allow physicians to use more generic terms and open-ended prescriptions when writing scripts for diabetic supplies covered by Medicare. The letter from AAFP Board Chair Glen Stream, M.D., acknowledged that although such supplies represent an area often cited for processing errors, the requirements "have become overly burdensome with little to no value added to the actual care of the diabetic patient."
