Ground covers such as Asiatic jasmine, monkey grass and rosemary can help a landscape withstand dry spells because they require less water than grass, writes horticulturist Calvin Finch. In this article, Finch discusses several types of ground covers, including their growth habits and suggested uses. "One of the best strategies for replacing lawn grass with an easy-to-care for ground cover is to kill the grass with Round-Up and then plant the ground covers right into the killed sod," he writes.
