Fla. county to invest $1.6B to upgrade water, sewer systems

Florida's Miami-Dade County will spend $1.6 billion to repair its deteriorated water and sewer pipes over the next 15 years in an agreement meant to settle environmental violations with the federal and state governments. "Any world-class city has good infrastructure, and the most important infrastructure in any city is its water and sewer," said Mayor Carlos Gimenez. Gimenez's administration predicts the decision will mean a 33% increase in quarterly water bills over the next five years.
