German analysts aim to reduce helicopter engine noise

Helicopters are noisy not just because of the air turbulence generated by the rotating blades, but also in the engine's combustion chamber. Researchers at the German Aviation and Aerospace Center in Berlin are trying to reduce helicopter engine noise. The first challenge has been dissecting the different sounds that occur during the combustion process.
