Ill. city promotes sustainability of native plants

Officials and landscape experts in Lake Forest, Ill., organized a community forum to promote the benefits of native plants. The discussion included working native plants into traditional landscaping and the benefits of indigenous species for cost and conservation. The forum also debunked misconceptions, "including that a bunch of overgrown weeds shouldn't be confused with prairie," said Chuck Myers, the city's superintendent of parks and forestry.
