More women break through industry's "concrete ceiling"

The number of women-owned construction firms surged by 76% between 1997 and 2007, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. More women are finding success in the construction industry as entrepreneurs, rather than as workers, and females "are steadily chiseling away at that concrete ceiling, writes Deena Shanker. Proof of this is the inclusion of 28 women-owned businesses in the the Inner City 100 list compiled by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, which details "the fastest-growing urban small businesses in America."
