If newly introduced legislation is passed, Amtrak would allow animals to travel in special cars designated for passengers with pets. The Pets on Trains Act would require Amtrak to develop a pet policy. "My dog, Lily, is a part of our family and travels with us to and from California all the time. If I can take her on a plane, why can't I travel with her on Amtrak, too?" said Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., who notes that the pet-friendly policy could increase revenue for Amtrak.
